The NICKEFFECT project will participate in a joint 4SEE Cluster webinar titled “Advances in Materials Modelling: From Atoms to Industrial Application”, organised by the European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC) and the NOUVEAU project. This collaborative event, scheduled for June 18, 2025, will bring together experts from NICKEFFECT, NOUVEAU, MOZART, and FreeMe to discuss innovative approaches in materials modelling for innovative metallic coatings and engineered surfaces.

The NOUVEAU project, alongside its sister initiatives including NICKEFFECT, is dedicated to the development of innovative, safe, and sustainable-by-design metallic coatings and engineered surfaces. This joint webinar underscores a strong commitment to cross-project collaboration, aiming to propel European advancements in materials science through the implementation of shared strategies and methodologies.

During the webinar, representatives from each project will deliver concise presentations outlining their specific approaches to materials modelling. The talks will highlight key areas such as:

  • Density-functional theory (DFT): Exploring its application in understanding material properties at the atomic level.
  • Machine-learned interatomic potentials: Discussing the development and utilization of these advanced computational tools.
  • Process optimization: Showcasing how modelling contributes to enhancing industrial processes.
  • Multiscale modelling: Presenting strategies for bridging different length and time scales in materials simulations.
  • Electrochemical plating processes: Detailing the use of modelling in optimizing electrochemical surface treatments.

These topics are at the forefront of research in computational materials science, electrochemistry, and industrial process optimization, promising a rich exchange of knowledge and insights across various domains.

Key outcomes anticipated from this collaborative effort include:

  • Identifying and collectively addressing existing bottlenecks in atomic modelling techniques.
  • Enhancing the transferability of successful workflows and methodologies between the participating projects.
  • Facilitating the exchange of standardization approaches relevant to their respective sectors.

This joint initiative represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of revolutionary advancements in metallic coatings and engineered surfaces. By fostering collaboration and sharing expertise, NICKEFFECT and its partner projects aim to strengthen Europe’s leadership in the development of sustainable and advanced material solutions.

We encourage researchers, industry professionals, and anyone interested in the future of materials modelling to join us for this insightful webinar. It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the latest advancements and engage with leading experts in the field.
