As materials proposed as alternative to Pt are available on the EU market and present no major problems in terms of supply, NICKEFFECT will reduce dependence on scarce materials.

Nickeffect will boost green energy solutions by developing low-cost catalyst materials. I expect that scalable production methods like electrodeposition and electroless can penetrate the market of water electrolysis and fuel cell technologies.

By investigating the replacement of Platinum Group Metals with lightweight porous Ni-based thin coatings, NICKEFFECT will bring a significant contribution to one of the major obstacles for large scale production of fuel cells and hydrogen generation reactors.

Advent mission is to advance the development and manufacturing of advanced materials, components, and next-generation fuel cell technology to unlock the hydrogen economy. In NICKEFFECT we expect to demonstrate new PMG type of catalysts for HT-PEM and electrolyzers of higher performance and stability.

NICKEFFECT’s results will generate a deep impact, during and beyond the project execution. I expect novel coatings and models to allow inferring new insights which will constitute the basis for getting improvements in both the materials’ design and the process development.
